A choral tour of England and France
For those of you still bitter that you didn’t travel anywhere fun over the winter months — while friends and co-workers blasted off to Florida or Switzerland or wherever — take some gorgeous aesthetic revenge: On Saturday and Sunday, the mighty Chorus of Westerly presents “Choral Gems of England & France.”
The program, under the baton of COW music director Andrew Howell, features a fine and imaginative program:
Vierne’s Kyrie (Messe Solennelle); Duruflé’s Ubi Caritas; Langlais’s Sanctus (Messe Solennelle); Fauré’s Agnus Dei (Requiem); Terry’s For the Fallen; Proulx’s Amazing Grace; Boulanger’s Cantique; Britten’s Hymn to Saint Cecilia; Coleridge-Taylor’s Beside the ungathered rice he lay; Howells’ Collegium Regale, Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis; and Smith’s Preces and Response.
And you don’t have to bring passports.
The Chorus of Westerly, 7 p.m. Sat. and 3 p.m. Sun., George Kent Performance Hall, 119 High St., Westerly; $15-$60; chorusofwesterly.org, (401) 596-8663.
