Telegraph celebrates 11th Record Store Day on Saturday

    Marvelous Liars (Zack Rubin Photography)

We moved into our New London home two weeks before Christmas 1999. On Christmas night, the basement flooded. Among the damage? A rather substantial album collection — records my wife and I had respectively brought to the marriage — was destroyed.

And so I have mixed feelings about Record Store Day. I love the idea and the bargains and the indie spirit and the fact that artists embrace the idea of contributing special releases just for the event! But we don't even have a turntable anymore. Why would we?

Still, the 11th annual Record Store Day, happening Saturday, is going to be pretty great at Telegraph Records in New London. In addition to all the bonus releases, in-store discounts and sundry freebies, there will be the usual day-into-night array of live music performances.

Set times aren't available yet, but scheduled to appear so far are Horns of Ormus, Marvelous Liars, T Wreck (members of Fatal Film and Incognito Sofa Love with Danny Boroughs), DaniProbably (of Quiet Giant), Skiddy (Brian Skidmore of the Weird Beards), Ada Mae, and DJ Frank Lo.

Record Store Day, 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday, Telegraph Records, 19 Golden St., New London; free; (860) 701-0506.
