Did you know that Priscilla Presley spent some of her childhood in Niantic?

Well, the Presleys are returning to downtown, in movie form: Director Baz Luhrmann's "Elvis" is coming to Niantic Cinemas on Friday.

Niantic Main Street has organized a pop-up Main Street Rock 'n' Roll Car Cruise to celebrate the bio-pic film and the town's appreciation for the family-owned cinema. Activities will include a vintage car show on the St. John's Green, a '50s and '60s costume contest, a chance to meet Elvis tribute artist Michael O' Connor and Priscilla look-alike Miss P, a tribute performance, and several merchant tents. Wrap up the day by grabbing tickets to see "Elvis" on the big screen at 8 p.m.

The idea for the event began with East Lyme Selectwoman and Elvis fan Rose Ann Hardy. She says Priscilla spent time in Niantic, living there while her stepfather, who was in the military, was stationed in Groton.

Main Street Rock 'n' Roll Car Cruise: A Tribute to the King, 5 p.m. Friday, Niantic Cinemas, 279 Main St., Niantic; www.discovereastlyme.com.
