Anyone who's ever sat down, colored pencil firmly in-hand, tongue peeking out of the corner of the mouth in concentration, and tried to actually draw a realistic portrait of someone knows how hard that is. Particularly after the subject sees it and throws a glass at you. This is why it's fun and illuminating to contemplate the skill and greatness of "Painting the Figure." It's a new exhibition/sale of figure painting by renowned artist Jerry Weiss. The show opens with a reception from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Cooley Gallery, 25 Lyme St., Old Lyme.
