Exhibition showcases The Day photojournalists’ maritime images
Every day, the photojournalists at The Day are charged with documenting life in the region, and often that work intersects with life and work in, on and around the water.
Maritime images by The Day’s photojournalists — Tim Cook, Dana Jensen, Tim Martin and Sean Elliot — are highlighted in an exhibition presented by The Day and the Custom House Maritime Museum.
It’s the first such show, and it opens with a reception at 6 p.m. Friday.
Custom House Maritime Museum Director Susan Tamulevich approached Elliot, who is The Day's director of photography, with the idea of an exhibition highlighting some of The Day’s best images of the region’s maritime scenes.
“Lighthouses, Submarines, and Tall Ships” features 20 large-format, framed photographs.
The opening reception will include refreshments and a question-and-answer period with the photographers. One image from the show will be raffled off that night to those who RSVP to a Facebook event created to promote the opening.
The reception is free and open to the public.
The exhibition remains on view through July 16 at the Custom House, 150 Bank St., New London. Hours are 1-5 p.m. Wed.-Sun., and admission is $7, free for New London Maritime Society members, kids under 15, Coast Guard cadets, active-duty military and their families. The large-format framed photos will be up for sale.
