As you read this, it's only 64 days until Trick or Treat. Seasonal Halloween shops are already shelving costumes in theretofore empty storefronts in strip malls, and grocery stores and pharmacies stockers are piling up overtime unloading trucks of bite-sized Snickers and Butterfingers.

It's not too early to get your Spook on, is what I'm trying to say.

In that specter — er, spirit — assemble Tuesday at the Savoy Bookshop & Café for a reading by Westerly horror writer Christa Carmen. Her short stories have appeared in esteemed dark fiction periodicals like Danse Macabre and Fireside Fiction Company, and her debut collection, "Something Borrowed, Something Blood-Soaked," is now out from Unnerving Books, a respected indie publisher of horror.

In addition to her terror-forged writing, Carmen works at Pfizer in Clinical Trial Packaging, at a local hospital as a mental health clinician, and as a volunteer with organizations aiming to maximize public awareness of the opioid crisis in the region.
