Alexis Star celebrates 'My Journey' with exhibition at Hygienic Art
Childhood in the tropical beauty of the Dominican Republic. The unique bond between a mother and her child. The cultural segue between island life and discovering a creative vocation in New London. The idea of Tranquility.
All of these elements figure significantly in the artwork of Alexis Star, whose solo exhibit, "My Journey," opens with a reception from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday in New London's Hygienic Art.
After moving to the U.S. at 20, Star attended Connecticut College and graduated in 2009 with Bachelor of Fine Arts degree (minoring in Hispanic Studies) and has been painting since.
The show runs through March 16. The Hygienic's located at 79 Bank St., New London; free; hours noon-7 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays, 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday, and noon-4 p.m. Sundays;(860) 443-8001.
