Coast Guard Band presents "A Musical Feast" concert Sunday

    U.S. Coast Guard Band (Contributed)

If one more musician or celebrity makes a Christmas album, I'll feed Santa to starving wolves. Although I suppose just one more version of "White Christmas" would be a lot different than all the others.

Anyway, why don't some of these folks take a cue from the United States Coast Guard Band and do some Thanksgiving music? The estimable New London-based service band presents their "Musical Feast" concert at the Coast Guard Academy Sunday, just in time to whet your appetite for the sweet gluttony that happens on Thanksgiving Day!

Assistant director and chief warrant officer Jeffrey Spenner conducts the performance. It includes Bach's "Fantasia in G Major"; Sousa's "Nobles of the Mystic Shrine"; a suite from Bernstein's MASS (performed by the Coast Guard Brass Quintet); Alan Hovhaness' "Symphony No. 4"; and Charles-Marie Widor's "Toccata."

"A Musical Feast," United States Coast Guard Band, 2 p.m. Sunday, Leamy Hall, U.S. Coast Guard Academy, 15 Mohegan Ave.; free; (860) 701-6826.
