Beginning Thursday, December 15, the Bill Memorial Library in the City of Groton invites patrons of all ages to celebrate Jolabokaflod with us during the holiday season. Jolabokaflod, or the Yule Book Flood, is a beautiful Icelandic tradition of exchanging books on December 24 and then spending the evening reading them and eating chocolate. The library will have beautifully wrapped books with chocolate for all ages available for pick up, while they last. We ask that books be limited to one per patron.

Gift books will be available beginning Thursday, December 15 during our regular business hours until December 24 or until they are gone, whichever comes first.

Library hours are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 10:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M.; Wednesday and Friday, 10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.; and Saturday, 10:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. Browse our latest book orders at http://www.billmemorial.org/new-arrivals .

This beginner-friendly class serves as an introduction to the oldest form of printmaking – relief printing. You will be creating a single-color linocut print of your own design, and learning the basics of relief printing in the process. You will learn how to use (If member, this counts as certification on) the tabletop cylinder press, barens, and carving tools and become familiar with the processes associated with beginner relief printing: transferring a design, carving/mark-making, inking, and printing.

Please bring a printout of a simple design (remember that your relief print will be a mirror image of the design you print out). If you don’t have one, one will be provided.

Please read through the relief printing handout in advance of the class.
