Honoring Black culture at Mitchell College event

“Letting OUR Voices Be Heard” will celebrate Black heritage and culture Sunday at Mitchell College.

This event honoring Black History Month will spotlight Black performers and Black-owned businesses. Included in the mix: dancers to influential Black speakers, singers to natural hair specialists. DJ Tim Allen will provide music of Black culture, and Black-owned food trucks will sell food.

The event is the brainchild of Mitchell College student Inonda Peterson. She organized “Letting OUR Voices Be Heard” as a way to show younger generations in the Black community that they are not defined or limited by their skin color.

“Letting OUR Voices Be Heard,” 1-5 p.m. Sunday, Clarke Center at Mitchell College, 437 Pequot Ave., New London; snow date is March 3; admission is free, but registration is recommended; https://mitchell.edu/2024/02/01/blackvoices/
