Spanning two decades and intertwining a creative, cultural and residency exchange between Bulgaria and America, "Bulgaria // Then + Now" is a cooperative exhibit boasting the works of almost 40 artists, writers and contributors from the two countries. In addition to a host of Bulgarian artists, just a few of the familiar regional folks included are Kat Murphy, Charles Chu, Sharon Tripp Griffis and William Meredith.

The exhibit opens with a reception from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Hygienic Art Galleries, 79-83 Bank St., New London. Many of the artists will be on hand. The show runs through Sept. 5. Hours are 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Thurs. and Sat., 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Fri., and 12-3 p.m. Sun. 443-8001, hygienic.org.
