    H.S. tennis: East Lyme boys open season with easy win

    East Lyme — East Lyme open its season with an easy 7-0 victory over New London in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division I boys' tennis match on Monday.

    The Vikings, the reigning division champion, did not drop a set. They picked up singles wins from Finn Power, Davon Chen, Sumeet Kadian and Eric Gu posted singles along with doubles wins from the teams of Sujesh Kurumbail-Conrad French, Jonathan Tan-Guillen Colom and Alex Li-Ethan Stewart.

    The Whalers fell to 1-1, 0-1.

    In other matches:

    • Stonington’s Sean Bessette outlasted Greg Vilardo of Bacon Academy in the No. 2 singles match 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (5), leading the Bears to a 5-2 win in their ECC Division II season opener. William Michelson, Kyle Remmert and Filip Aubrecht also won their singles matches for Stonington (2-0, 1-0).

    • Mathew Krick and Chris Russo both won their respective matches as Fitch swept Norwich Free Academy 7-0 in the season-opening match for both teams in ECC Division I. Noah Kennedy and Andy Trinh also won at number one doubles for the Falcons.

    Girls

    • Woodstock Academy won three of four matches that went three sets to outlast Waterford 4-3 in an ECC Division II match. Sophie Wang rallied for a 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles for the Lancers (2-1, 0-1), while Stacey Tasloulas added a win at No. 3 singles as did the No. 3 doubles team of Nitya and Nidi Somineni.

    • Shauna Kim, Colleen Keller, Mary Kathrine Taylor and Ashley Brown all won singles matches in straight sets as East Lyme opened with a 7-0 win over New London in an ECC Division I match. The Vikings also picked up doubles wins from Erin Peterec-Neha Ande, Emily Zhu-Liz Beaulieu and Sophie Arustei-Becca Pagglioli. New London is 1-1, 0-1.

    • Gabby Dellacono, Charlotte Johnstone, Makenzie Sadler and Hannah Middleton-Krancberg won singles matches without dropping a point as Stonington topped Bacon Academy 7-0 in an ECC Division II matchup. The Bears (2-0, 1-0) got doubles wins from the teams of Phoebe Townsend and Brielle Fratoni-Jaskiewicz, Margot Goodman and Ainsley Johnstone and Holly Foster and Cassie Onorato.

    • Old Lyme swept the three doubles matches on the way to a 6-1 victory over Portland in the Shoreline Conference. The teams of Shannon Nosal-Kellie Sablone, Emily O'Brien-Samantha Caulkins and Emma Danes-Lauren Wallace were straight-set winners for the Wildcats as were singles players Keelin Hurtt, Brynn McGlinchey and Emma Bass.

    • Fitch's Samantha Cote, Sneha Kumar, Kavita Srirangam and Emmy Powdrill swept the singles matches to highlight the Falcons' 6-1 win over NFA in an ECC Division I match. Fitch (1-1, 1-0) also picked up doubles wins from the teams of Charlina Holloway-Haley Rodgers and Nyseanah Ishmael-Caroline Garrett while NFA (0-1, 0-1) picked up a win from its No. 2 doubles team of Hannah Crary-Vivian Tang, which won 6-1, 4-6, 7-6 (6).
