Today’s games

Lewis Mills at Valley/Old Lyme, 3:30 p.m.

Records: Lewis Mills (0-8, 0-6 Pequot Sassacus); Valley/OL (6-1, 4-1)

Last week: Lewis Mills was idle; Valley/OL defeated Rockville 33-28

Outlook: This may not resemble the biggest game ever for the Warriors. Winless opponent, odd start time. But Valley/Old Lyme, which sits No. 7 in the Class S playoff race, must keep winning to entertain the thoughts of the postseason. Valley, a half-game behind Cromwell/Portland and Haddam-Killingworth, also has a chance to at least tie for the Sassacus Division title. After this week, the Warriors play H-K (7-1) in what will amount to one of the state’s biggest Thanksgiving games. That game will be played Tuesday, Nov. 20.

East Lyme at Fitch, 6:30 p.m.

Records: East Lyme (3-4, 1-1); Fitch (5-3, 0-2)

Last week: East Lyme was idle; Fitch defeated Capital/AF 29-3

Outlook: East Lyme has won two straight and can even its record with a win here. The Vikings can earn their second straight winning season by winning their final three games: at Fitch, at Branford, at Waterford. Fitch, meanwhile, has a winning record but remains winless in ECC Div. I.

New London at Stonington, 6:30 p.m.

Records: New London (4-3); Stonington (1-7)

Last week: New London defeated Ledyard 25-10; Stonington lost to Bacon Academy 13-6

Outlook: The Whalers can assure themselves no worse than a .500 season by defeating the Bears. They’d also improve upon their win total from 2017. Stonington won its first game two weeks ago, but couldn’t sustain the momentum last week at Bacon.

NFA at Killingly, 6:30 p.m.

Records: NFA (5-3); Killingly (7-1)

Last week: NFA defeated Waterford 55-21; Killingly defeated Trinity Catholic 34-14

Outlook: This is the ECC’s Game of the Year. NFA, tested already against Xavier, Fairfield Prep, Newtown and Windsor, takes to the road (and natural grass) of Killingly, the state’s defending Class M champ. Killingly can qualify for the playoffs with a loss, but needs to keep winning to play a postseason game at home. The Redmen’s lone loss came at New London, where they surrendered 264 passing yards. NFA’s passing game is the most effective in the ECC.

Saturday’s games

Ledyard at Bacon Academy, noon

Records: Ledyard (2-6, 1-2 ECC Div. II); Bacon (2-6, 2-1)

Last week: Ledyard lost to New London 25-10; Bacon defeated Stonington 13-6

Outlook: Ledyard coach Clay Killingsworth saw many positives in last week's loss to New London, during which the Colonels stayed competitive throughout. This is a chance at win No. 3 and to even their record in ECC Div. II.

ATI at Thames River, 1 p.m.

Records: ATI (5-2); Thames River (4-3)

Last week: ATI was idle; Thames River lost to O’Brien Tech 20-0

Outlook: This is an interesting game for ATI, a cooperative program between Abbott Tech and Immaculate, both of Danbury. ATI sits No. 10 in the Class M playoff race and needs to win its last two games to qualify. Thames River needs to finish with wins to secure a winning season.
