The Day's H.S. football poll has key matchup this week: No. 4 Darien at No. 3 Greenwich

The high school football season has reached its halfway point.

    Now the fun really begins.

Week 7 is highlighted by the biggest game to date — No. 4 Darien at No. 3 Greenwich in the second half of Saturday's FCIAC doubleheader involving unbeaten teams ranked in the top seven of The Day's state coaches’ poll.

Darien and the Cardinals are both 5-0 and have ruled over the CIAC Class LL division the past four years. Greenwich is the defending champion. The Blue Wave won the previous three, tying Xavier’s state-record for the most consecutive LL titles.

Darien and Greenwich kick off at 4 p.m.

The first half of Saturday’s FCIAC doubleheader is No. 7 Ridgefield at No. 2 St. Joseph (1:30 p.m.). Both are 5-0.

There were few/no changes among the top 10 teams this week, partly due to this past weekend being the second straight with many teams on a bye.

Top-ranked Hand received 10 first-place votes this week. St. Joseph received two first-place votes and Greenwich one.

There are no area teams receiving votes. Killingly (5-0), the last unbeaten team in the ECC, is 14th.
