Checking in with Tajeah: "My mom's name is Tracy Grim and she is nothing short of amazing. Besides the fact that she raised me ... made sure I had everything I needed and ever wanted, she’s had my brother's and my back like no one else. When my brother or I made mistakes, she was always there. I will never forget to remind her I love her."

What you need to know about Tajeah: Winston is a three-sport athlete at Ledyard (volleyball, basketball, track) and was also awarded a Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship this past fall. "This was one of my greatest achievements to date," Winston said of the award. "I am beyond honored and blessed that I was able to be chosen among such an amazing group of young adults. I wouldn't have been able to do it without any of my supporters behind me. I will always be a Martin Luther King Jr. Scholar and I will continue to change the world." Winston, the basketball team's ECC Division II scholar-athlete recipient, is an aspiring anesthesiologist. She was a member of the Ledyard track team's ECC Division II regular-season championship team last spring. The best moment of her track career, she said, came as a freshman when she was running an event at the Ledyard Relays and her brother Herman Winston, a former Day Athlete of the Year, ran alongside her on the grass to cheer her on. To her fellow track athletes, Winston says: "We shocked the ECC last year for winning for the first time in FOREVER. Let’s keep up the pride and keep doing our thing. Perfect practice makes perfect." Winston is trying to eat healthy despite the bare shelves some days at the grocery stores. She enjoys spending time with her cat, Jaspurr, and her family and likes a movie with a happy ending, calling Will Smith's The Pursuit of Happyness "a top three for me."
