    H.S. tennis: Ledyard girls take lead in ECC Medium

    Ledyard - Ledyard High School won three of four singles matches to defeat Bacon Academy, 4-3 in a girls' tennis match on Wednesday.

    The Colonels (9-3, 5-1) moved into first place in the Eastern Connecticut Conference Medium Division.

    Caroline Calomme, Sarah Woodruff and Callie Bateman all won singles matches for the Colonels (9-3, 5-1), while the doubles team of Kaitlyn Turner-Danielle Giggi also won.

    Catherine Clark won at No. 1 singles for Bacon (5-5, 2-2).

    In other matches:

    • Vivian Zhang won a three-set match at No. 4 singles, 6-7 (4), 6-4, 7-5) to help Norwich Free Academy to its first ECC Large Division win of the season, 4-3 over East Lyme.

    Kristie Anderson also won a singles match for the Wildcats (6-6, 1-5). Joan Li won at No. 1 singles for East Lyme (4-8, 2-4).

    • Woodstock Academy beat Waterford 5-2 in the ECC Large Division. The doubles teams of Carver Murphy-Katie Hudson and Kristi Slocum-Briana Van Verdeghem won for Waterford (11-3, 4-2).

    • Montville won the first two singles and doubles matches and defeated New London, 4-3 in the ECC Medium. Emily Johnson and Kelsey Gallup each won singles matches for Montville (2-7, 1-3). New London is 2-8, 0-3.

    Boys

    • Zack Bussiere won at No. 1 singles and Bacon swept doubles play to post a 4-3 win over Ledyard in the ECC Medium. The Bobcats are 4-7, 2-2. James Cusmano, David Sindel and Jason Smith won singles matches for Ledyard (1-9, 0-4).

    • Stonington dropped the first two singles matches, but swept the rest of play and stayed unbeaten with a 5-2 win over St. Bernard in the ECC Small. Daniel Banker-Devin White, Thomas Bovino-Tim Cusack and Duncan Brown-John Skogerboe posed doubles wins for the Bears (12-0, 5-0). Nick Pellegrino and Joey Strafaci won singles matches for St. Bernard (7-6, 2-3).
