    H.S. roundup: Griswold football team beats Woodstock 20-6

    Woodstock - Tim Gwiazdowski ran for 82 yards and the Griswold High School football team scored a pair of third-quarter touchdowns to break a halftime tie and defeat Woodstock Academy, 20-6, on Saturday afternoon.

    Gwiazdowski scored on a 12-yard pass from quarterback Adam Davis (7-for-14, 186 yards) and on a three-yard run. Davis also threw a 68-yard touchdown pass to Zach Wood.

    Brandon Walsh caught three passes for 84 yards for Griswold (2-1), which scored the final 20 points of the game unanswered.

    Boys' soccer

    • Ryan Willis broke a 2-2 tie by scoring a goal with 10 minutes remaining as Woodstock Academy rallied from a 2-0 halftime deficit to defeat Waterford 3-2 in the Eastern Connecticut Conference Large Division.

    Marco Roberto scored both goals for the Lancers (2-5-1, 0-3), who allowed a pair of goals by Tim Harrington before Willis broke the deadlock.

    • Gabe Miller, Ed Bockowski and Tyler Krzyzaniak scored and Stonington defeated Killingly, 3-1, the Bears' first win of the season. Stonington is 1-6-2.

    Girls' soccer

    • Bacon Academy rallied from a 1-0 deficit to defeat Fitch, 2-1, in the ECC Large Division.

    After Beth Wallace had give the Falcons (3-4-2, 0-3-2) the lead with six minutes left in the first half, McKenzie Downer tied it for Bacon (4-0-1, 3-0-1) with one minute left in the half and Shelby Tallman, assisted by Kristen McAdams, broke the tie with 16 minutes remaining.

    • Jaclyn Greenman scored an unassisted goal just 7:20 into the game and unbeaten Waterford went on to defeat Norwich Free Academy 2-0 in the ECC Large Division. Melina Spanos also scored a first-half goal for the Lancers (7-0, 3-0) and goalie Christina Benak stopped four shots to earn the shutout. Yana Babbitt made five saves in goal for NFA (5-3, 2-3).

    • Corrie Hoyt headed in a cross from Bri Casey from about 10 yards out in the 52nd minute as Lyman Memorial defeated Woodstock 1-0. Mary Labas made three saves in goal to earn the shutout for the Bulldogs (6-3), who held a 17-5 edge in shots. Woodstock is 3-3-2.

    • Carly Loy's goal in the 22nd minute, assisted by Savannah Johnson, gave Ledyard a 1-0 win over Griswold.

    Colleen Rusk stopped eight shots in goal for the Colonels (3-5-1) to earn the shutout while goalie Nicole Sylvestre made nine saves for the Wolverines (5-4-1).

    • Kennedy Nickerson scored a goal and Allison Stoddard made 13 saves as East Lyme tied North Haven 1-1 in a nonleague game. The Vikings are 3-3-2.

    Field hockey

    • Molly Crowley scored a goal in the first five minutes and Libby Morrison added two more in the first half as Stonington handed East Lyme its first ECC loss, 3-0. The Bears (5-3, 4-1) outshot the Vikings 21-1. Carolyn Baremore made 18 saves in goal for East Lyme (4-3, 4-1).

    Swimming

    • Ashlie Sobus won a pair of events (50 freestyle, 100 backstroke) as East Lyme remained unbeaten in the ECC with a 97-70 win over Ledyard on Friday night. The Vikings are 6-2 overall, 5-0 in the conference. Jessica Hespeler won the 100 and 200 freestyles for the Colonels (1-5, 1-5).
