Guilford Earns Sixth Place Finish at SCC Championship
Ray Sherwood and Mark Lisitano claimed their respective Southern Connecticut Conference titles on Feb. 11 as the Guilford wrestling team placed sixth at the SCC meet.
Led by Sherwood and Lisitano, the Indians scored 61 total points, finishing just behind fifth-place Fairfield Prep, which scored 63.5. Sherwood won the 182-pound title with a 7-0 decision over Shane Dempsey of Prep and Lisitano claimed the 195 crown in a 4-2 decision over Xavier's Jake Whalen. The only other Indian to place in the top four was Nate Misbach at 145, who lost a close 4-3 decision to Foran's Clay Callan.
Guilford went on to compete in the Class M State Championship on Feb. 17, coming in 12th place with 74 points. Kevin Carregal came in fifth place at 132, dropping an 8-4 decision to Berlin's Rich Schlichting. Misbach mirrored his fourth-place performance at SCCs with another fourth-place finish as he was pinned by Ledyard's Will Finney, while Sherwood earned a fifth-place finish at 170 by pinning Montville's Dan Kurasz.
