Colchester — Stonington's defense came up big for the second straight week as the Bears won their Eastern Connecticut Conference Division II football opener with a 7-0 victory over Bacon Academy on Saturday.

The Bears (3-1, 1-0) have allowed only seven points in their three wins, shutting out Plainfield 13-0 in the season opener and defeating East Lyme 26-7 last week.

Stonington scored its lone touchdown against the Bobcats when Liam Wallace threw a six-yard touchdown pass to David Bibeau early in the second quarter.

It was Wallace's first career touchdown pass and his only completion of the day. Hayden Parrilla rushed for 60 yards on 13 carries for the Bears.

In other games:

• Quarterback Jared Neal threw three touchdown passes and ran for a fourth as Thames River cruised to a 28-8 victory over Vinal Tech/East Hampton/Goodwin Tech in the Constitution State Conference. The Crusaders (2-2) led 20-0 at halftime.

Xavier Wright was on the receiving end of two TD passes, including a 10-yarder late in the first half, while Owen Reynolds caught a 29-yard TD pass for the first score of the game. 

Neal finished with 312 total yards, completing 13 of 18 passes for 143 yards while rushing 18 times for 169 yards. Reynolds had four receptions for 76 yards and gained 58 yards on nine carries.

Boys' soccer

• Leo Oviedo scored just eight minutes into the game as Waterford defeated Old Lyme 2-0 in a non-conference game. Dan Castelpoggi assisted for the Lancers (7-2-1), who picked up an unassisted goal from Stephan Lavoie later in the first half. Glen Faber earned the shutout by making four saves for Waterford, which held a 15-5 edge in shots, while Ryan Tetreault made eight saves for the Wildcats (6-2-2).

Girls' soccer

• Old Lyme and Waterford battled to a scoreless draw. The Wildcats (9-1-1) held a 20-9 edge in shots, but goalie Jordan Kovacs made 11 saves for the Lancers (3-2-3) while Katherine Pettersen stopped five shots for Old Lyme.

• Kellie Nudd scored twice as Bacon beat Fitch 6-0. Fitch (1-6) was outshot 18-8. 

Cross country

• Mary Madaus of Williams School finished second in the O'Connell Invitational at Cheshire Academy, finishing the 5K race in a time of 22:24. Williams' top finisher in the boys' race was Will Jarrett, who placed 12th in 19:45. 

Swimming

• Gretchen Stelter won two individual events and was part of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team as East Lyme swept a quad-meet on Friday. The Vikings finished with 463 points followed by Middletown (412), Windham/Lyman Memorial (157) and Old Lyme/Valley Regional (107). Stelter won the 50 free (27.12 seconds) and 100 free (1:00.14) for East Lyme, which also picked up individual wins from Maeve Counter (200 IM, 2:29.84), Mary Kathryn Taylor (100 butterfly, 1:04.25), Alexis Dumais (500 free, 5:58.13), Victoria Chen (100 backstroke, 1:08.50) and Taylor Gray (100 breaststroke, 1:14.01). Old Lyme's Lily Cox won the 200 free in 2:10.56.
