    Friday’s Games

    Montville at Stonington, 6:30 p.m.

Records: Montville (0-2, 0-0 ECC Div. III); Stonington (2-1, 2-0)

Last week: Montville lost to East Catholic 27-26 (OT); Stonington defeated Bacon Academy 49-0.

Outlook: The Bears can go to 3-0 in ECC Div. III and set up a potential division title game in two weeks against Killingly. After going more than 1,000 days without a win, Stonington has won its last two games 109-0. The defense, including its consecutive shutouts, recovered five fumbles last week.

Bacon Academy at Fitch, 6:30 p.m.

    Records: Bacon (0-3); Fitch (2-0)

Last week: Bacon lost to Stonington 49-0; Fitch defeated New London 12-7.

Outlook: This is an opportunity for Fitch to develop some offensive rhythm, which has been lacking in the first two games. Despite the 2-0 record, the Falcons have scored a combined 26 points, leaning on what is becoming a very good defense. Eli Shelton and Sean Porter consistently pressured the quarterback in last week’s win.

    New London at Griswold/Wheeler, 6:30 p.m.

    Records: New London (1-1); Griswold/Wheeler (0-2)

Last week: New London lost to Fitch 12-7; Griswold/Wheeler was idle

Outlook: There was a sting in last week’s loss for the Whalers, who had a 7-point lead inside of seven minutes remaining against their neighboring rivals. Things shouldn’t be as difficult here with Griswold/Wheeler battling injury and depth issues. A bright spot for New London thus far has been the play of its sophomores, including lineman Kyle Parkes, Joshua Blanding and Jefferson Bernadeau.

Windham at East Lyme, 6:30 p.m.

Records: Windham (0-3); East Lyme (1-2)

Last week: Windham lost to Tolland 40-20; East Lyme lost to NFA 28-26

Outlook: The Vikings rallied from a 28-14 deficit in the fourth quarter last week and nearly sent the game to overtime at NFA. Quarterback Will Anglin hit Rowan Mundell with a touchdown pass with no time remaining, but the same combination failed on the two-point conversion attempt. East Lyme’s David Semnoski returned a fumble 40 yards for a touchdown and blocked a punt in the second half.

    Valley/OL at Morgan, 6:30 p.m.

    Records: Valley (1-1, 1-1 Pequot Sassacus); Morgan (2-1, 2-1)

Last week: Valley was idle; Morgan defeated CREC 54-6

Outlook: The Warriors can move ahead of Morgan and a game behind Coginchaug/Hale Ray/East Hampton in the Sassacus Division of the Pequot. Coginchaug/Hale/Ray/East Hampton leads the division alone at 3-0 and has outscored its opponents 68-7 thus far.

    No. 2 Darien at NFA, 6:30 p.m.

    Records: Darien (3-0); NFA (2-1)

Last week: Darien defeated No. 4 Newtown 27-14; NFA defeated East Lyme 28-26

Outlook: The Blue Wave, ranked No. 2 in The Day's coaches' poll and No. 1 in the GameTimeCT.com media poll, make the 95-mile ride, coming off an emotional win last week against Newtown — the team that defeated Darien in the 2019 state championship game. Tighe Cummiskey ran for 101 yards and a pair of TDs last week, while Matt Minicus caught six passes for 129 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Miles Drake had 203 passing yards. NFA, which boasts one of the state’s best combinations in quarterback Jayden Desilus to receiver Max Pierre-Louis, has won its last two games by a combined three points.

Ledyard at Lyman Hall, 6:30 p.m.

Records: Ledyard (3-0); Lyman Hall (0-2)

Last week: Ledyard defeated Waterford 34-8; Lyman Hall lost to Plainville 21-12

Outlook: Ledyard has a chance to wave the flag for the ECC in a scheduling alliance game with the Southern Connecticut Conference. Ledyard’s Ryan Outlow has drawn statewide acclaim in recent weeks, combining to run for nearly 600 yards in his last two games.

    Saturday’s Games

    Waterford at Woodstock, noon

Records: Waterford (1-2, 1-1 ECC Div. III); Woodstock (2-1, 1-0)

Last week: Waterford lost to Ledyard 34-8; Woodstock defeated Plainfield 39-0

Outlook: Woodstock, which nearly upset NFA two weeks ago, is drastically better than it has been in recent years. The Lancers have a long bus ride and a noon start, but hope to get several starters back after last week’s injuries and disciplinary issues.

NW United at Thames River, 3 p.m.

Records: NW United (1-1, 1-1 Conn. Tech. Conf.); Thames River (3-0, 3-0)

Last week: NW United was idle; Thames River defeated Prince Tech 26-20 (OT)

Outlook: Thames River remains one of three unbeaten teams in the CTC with Cheney Tech (3-0) and Quinebaug Valley (2-0). The Crusaders’ overtime win last week came thanks to Seth Cunningham’s 2-yard touchdown run.
