'Communication to some New London school board members never been worse'

The New London Board of Education had its first meeting with the new superintendent Cynthia Ritchie on July 12. It is my hope with a new superintendent in place there is a shift in communication and a stronger demand for accountability from top cabinet positions.

Over the past several years I have seen the superintendents in charge not hold the people in these positions accountable.

One example is in the area of curriculum. For some time there has been no real curriculum. The district used bits and pieces of old programs. Cabinet members continue to throw their weight around and we end up losing great educators. A prime example the Teach to one Math director at the middle school and there are others.

I have been on the school board for 13 years. Never has the lack of communication to some board members been worse.

I know I am on the board to see that our students get the best education possible in a safe environment. I am confident the new superintendent and board can achieve this.
