Mystic parking problem is now critical

Parking in Mystic is in short supply. The number of places on Main Street was reduced by the streetscape project. Groton Zoning Board continues to rubber stamp every new restaurant or expansion if members are told that parking spots will be provided in the Mystic Museum of Art parking lot, which is frequently full.

Workers park any where they can, particularly on High, Gravel, Pearl and Cottrell Streets, making it difficult for residents to find space. Delivery trucks reduce streets to one-lane roads causing increased traffic congestion. Residents, owners and workers voice their concerns, but it falls on deaf ears.

Locals architect Mark Comeau identified possible parking lot sites to Groton and Stonington zoning boards but nothing has been done. When will the towns talk with each other to solve this problem?

What about a parking garage off Coogan Boulevard with shuttle service to popular locations?

Think creatively. People will stop coming to Mystic if they can’t find a spot to park. Locals are already avoiding downtown and it’s only going to get worse.
