I have known James Burke for many years. I am thrilled to see him running for New London City Council. The people, diversity, and vibrant culture in New London make this an excellent place to live. As an expecting mother, I’m thrilled to see a young parent running who will provide a unique perspective while making decisions for our city. 

I aspire to one day own a home in New London, but currently I am among the 60 percent of New London residents who rent. As my family plans for our future, our quality of life has suffered due to strained relations with sketchy landlords. Financial planning becomes harder when each month we consider the risks and rewards of moving somewhere new or not. Every unresolved plumbing issue or difficulty getting a security deposit returned makes a down payment on our first home seem even further away. 

James will fight to hold negligent landlords accountable. He will work hard to make sure families  know their rights and feel empowered to seek the city’s help when appropriate. James will work to create incentives to put families into empty homes in our neighborhoods.
