Needed is a truly conservative party, not Democrats lite

A recent "bipartisan" letter, "Bipartisan request: consider serving your Groton community," (March 9), begging for more volunteers in Town of Groton's government, and signed by the chairmen of Groton's Democrat and Republican parties, is a special moment in local humor! There is no functioning Republican Party in Groton or, for that matter, in the entire state.

Look at the Groton council. See any Republicanst? Or take a gander at our state congressional representation. Find any elephants in the room? Every single one of these jackasses voted to impeach the president, then wonder why they lost a submarine from the construction pipeline!

Groton's GOP cannot seem to drum up good candidates who will stand in opposition to lunatic Democrat policies like the war on plastic. It's quick to boast about its allegiance to political correctness and apologize for its weak candidates. I like to call it Democrat-lite, which is much less of an insult than it deserves. The only real solution for the rampant cynicism about government at all levels in Connecticut is to create an active, fully engaged and demonstrably conservative third party that might eventually win the hearts of the unrepresented citizenry.
