The Associated Press article, "Testing figures could be manipulated," (May 20), is a typical AP article. Its bias toward the "negative" in data collection is disguised as information. Any article that begins with a "could", "should" or "maybe" word, gives me pause. The adage "anything is possible" is a "fact," in reference to an article written like this. The article states that public health officials "may be" using a little sleight of hand to deliberately make things look better than they are. The three writers found one anecdotal story (I am referring to the Florida data scientist) to support their assumption. Writing, just like data interpretation, is not an exact science and articles like this make me skeptical of what is truth and what is spun in the media.
