Colchester roads need more civic involvement

It is sad to see our environment suffer at the hands of littering, something so easy to help regulate. Every day on my way to Bacon Academy, I look out the window and see the edges of streets covered in trash. It has left me feeling disgusted, and quite honestly, disappointed in our community. However, I know there are ways to combat this problem.

According to the Colchester Recreation Department, there is an annual trash clean-up event. There does not seem to be one scheduled for 2020 though. I believe this is due to COVID-19. But, either way, I still ask you to consider continuing this clean up. If schools can go back in session, and peaceful protests can be held on the Green, then Colchester groups and volunteers can pick up trash. Not only would everyone be outside, and of course wearing masks, but we could create smaller groups per location. That way, less people are in contact.

I support the idea that there should be trash clean-up events more often. This cannot continue to be a yearly occurrence. There is just simply too much trash accumulated. To ensure a cleaner Colchester, there should be cleanups every few months. I have faith that this can be accomplished.
