Another incisive op-ed piece by southeastern Connecticut's 21st century answer to Walter Lippmann has graced The Day, “Head-scratching numbers continue election doubts,” (Dec. 2).

In a column filled with what to Lee Elci are rhetorical questions, he sounds baffled that President-elect Biden not only received many more votes than Obama did in 2008, but that someone who did not "gain any early traction" against other Democrats vying for the nomination could "become a record breaker."

Need Elci be reminded that the journey to becoming a presidential nominee can be long and rocky and that someone who was on top in the early going may have been handed a one-way ticket to Palookaville (sorry Mr. Brando) halfway to the nomination and that someone else who was not even on the radar early can become the nominee?

And is it so hard for Elci to believe that there were more voters who wanted to try four years of a Biden presidency than chance eight years of Trump?

Facing facts can be difficult. But even I can do it. After all, it only took me two weeks to accept the fact that the Pirates really did beat the Yankees in the 1960 World Series. And I am fine now.
