Unhappy with treatment of incarcerated dog

I read the most bittersweet dog story on the front page of The Day, “After years on death row, pit bull gets sanctuary,” (Jan. 8).

I bawled my eyes out with emotion while reading this story and continued to be overcome with emotion the remainder of the day. This poor dog had been incarcerated since she was a puppy – eight long years. I do not understand why any humans would be this cruel to dogs! Any creature beginning life respects and learns from its mother – be it right or wrong.

I had a pit bull, Charlie Brown, for 15½ years and not a day goes by that I do not think of her. I remember during Charlie’s life how some really ignorant humans would react to her. I would just kiss Charlie and look these idiots in their eyes and say, “I love my dog very much” and then walk away, before I swore at them!

Who knows, maybe Dolly would live to 20 years old or more in her happy new life at the sanctuary. Thank you, God, Chris Lamb, St. Francis and all the other humans that made this possible for Dolly.
