    Ledyard bipartisanship, not authoritarianism

The residents of Ledyard can be extremely proud of the performance of those elected to the office of mayor, the Town Council, and the Board of Education. For many years, those officials have done what is best for Ledyard, regardless of party affiliation. It has been more than two decades since partisan politics was a significant factor in decisions made within town government.

Therefore, I am troubled that in her letter of July 12, Rebecca Graebner, herself a veteran of town government in the 21st century, would attribute a Town Council vote of 7-1 (clearly a bipartisan vote) to an “act of authoritarianism” on the part of the Town Council chairperson. The introduction of divisiveness to town government will only take us back to the “bad old days” and not serve the residents of Ledyard well. Let’s not start down that path.

    Terry Jones

Former Chairwoman of the Ledyard Town Council
