Find bright light to counter Collins's 'dark' commentary

As a daily reader I am dismayed by the negativity of columnist David Collins, regarding New London. Nothing satisfies his high regard for his own judgment. His columns are dark, conspiratorial, and reflect a glass always less than half full.

I would appreciate if The Day could include other views that embrace the potential of this lovely city. I may be a relative “newbie,” but I see positive growth these past few years. I am not naïve to the tragic history of the “Kelo” decision. But the time for lamenting those dark days is over, and the time for embracing what could be a very bright future is now. Please speak to the best of us as citizens, and not to the lowest common denominator.

Discussions about the waterfront proposal were prematurely negative. The plan has steps to include public feedback. I was one of many volunteer facilitators in my previous city when the local government wanted to gather public feedback on potential growth. Collected feedback was incorporated into many of the development plans, and it was time well spent. Perhaps New London could do the same. I would volunteer to be one of those facilitators. How about you Mr. Collins?
