Eloquent prose won't stop criminal; gun will

I write in response to the May 11 letter, "Politicos lag behind public on gun-control issue." The author stated, "We have failed to achieve rational control of violence because we have too many guns in our hands and minds."

Is that really why there is violence?

The rapist-murderers that forced their way into the Petit home had no guns. They were able to commit their heinous crimes while the police lined up outside to see what would happen. I certainly hope nothing like this ever happens again. Maybe the writer could defend his family by using some of that eloquent prose he demonstrated in the letter. Personally, I have a different plan in place. And that plan is guaranteed by our Constitution.
