Catala will fight for St. Joseph school nurse

The New London Board of Education will need to look at some big issues over the next few months, one being the recent notice that the Waterford Public Schools will no longer participate as a partner in the continuation of the Friendship School after the 2016-2017 school year. The loss of this program will cause many challenges.

The New London Public Schools and its leadership will need to find a quality education for our pre-school children. As we look to begin the new school year you will notice some changes in administration at some schools. The school board needs to have a hand in the selection of future administrators and be included on these important decisions.

Finally there is a serious concern regarding nursing in our city schools. There is a recommendation to cut the current level of funding for nursing service at Saint Joseph School. This cut would leave students at risk. This school provides an education for 150-plus students. They need a nurse at the school five full days. State law mandates that students who attend a private or parochial school be given equal nursing services as that of a public school. Please keep all our children safe.
