The Day published an op-ed piece by Richard Berman, “New Congress should tackle labor reform,” advocating labor reform in the Dec. 12 edition. Working people in America have seen stagnant or falling incomes for 40 years. Those 40 years have coincided with a reduction in unionized labor. The reform that Berman recommends (Employee Rights Act) would make it more difficult to organize and maintain a labor union and reduce the lobbying clout of those unions. None of this would improve wages and working conditions for American workers.
Today's American workers are in a hole. Berman wants them to buy a shovel.
