    Trump administration endangers democracy

Beth Coye's op-ed, “President Trump is a domestic threat to our democracy” (July 31), accurately captures President Trump's character and the threats he and his administration pose to our democratic form of government. Her military experience and background support her.

Congress needs to more strongly challenge the president's repeated attempts to tear down our institutions, including the Justice Department, the media, national security institutions and the State Department.

Stronger, direct public criticism of the president is needed to curb the impact of his frequent crude and divisive Twitter messages. We cannot so easily give up our democratic values to these intentional, relentless and reckless attacks.

We must understand that this president will not change. He clearly lacks a grasp of history and does not seem to accept constructive advice.

Self-interest seems to be the major agenda item of this president and his closest advisers.
