Electric Boat needs to fix its parking problem

I’m delighted that Electric Boat will be relocating some of their people to Eagle Park. I hope there are enough parking spaces for everyone, unlike their Groton and New London facilities. Parking is a problem for this company. It has been for years, yet little is done about it.

I live on Fort Street in the City of Groton; there are 14 residential parking spaces on my street. Electric Boat employees take 12 every day. They flex in between 7 and 9 a.m., so they are there all day. My lawn crew cannot get their equipment into my driveway. Deliveries are also difficult. This spring my neighbors parked on the street so I could get my driveway redone. The equipment couldn’t get in and out of my driveway because of all the cars. Poor weather adds to the difficulty.

I have asked the city for resident-only parking, which they hesitate to do. It is time for all residents of all towns that this company does business in to make a stand. I am tired of being held a hostage in the city where I pay taxes. Electric Boat should not get any more of our state tax money until they develop a parking plan for their employees and have it approved by host towns.
