Reject radical group's call for trap ban

I read a recent op-ed, "It’s time to ban these medieval animal torture devices," (March 10), which is about taking away an effective method of controlling the population of nuisance animals. Some, like beavers, can cause significant property damage with their dams.

The person who wrote this op-ed is the director of a group called the Friends of Animals. The "What We Believe" section of their website states that they are opposed to all hunting, are against sterilization of animals as a means to control population (even with invasive animals, such as wild horses), are opposed to all forms of predator control, and are opposed to the use of animals for human consumption. This means no meat, eggs, or cheese. But, of course, they are in favor of "population control" of humans.

These folks would like for us to treat animal life as sacred while treating human life as a scourge. I'm disappointed that you chose to publish an editorial by such an extreme and morally confused group of people. I urge our elected representatives to ignore the pleas from this group of radicals and to respect the rights of the 500 or so licensees who currently use the traps that would be banned if HR 6014 were to be passed.
