An aptly awful opinion page brings an end to 2020

Well, thanks for an opinion page on the last day of 2020 that was right in keeping with the awfulness of the year. Not a word of uplift or encouragement, leading off with a crabbed, whiny guest editorial criticizing Barack Obama for writing a popular book (the horror, next thing you know he'll wear a tan suit again!), pivoting to the vapid, self-congratulatory list of columns of Lee Elci, who manages to make himself the victim when people who disagree push back, and then claims that Joe Biden has a "radical left agenda" while deploring divisiveness. (He may be the best local voice offering right-wing views, but that says a lot more about the poverty of ideas on the right than about Mr. Elci).

Then you topped it off with three letters advocating crank views of Standard vs. Daylight Saving Time, vaccine skepticism, defending Trump's abysmal handling of the pandemic with "whaddabouts" and tiresomely pushing the thoroughly debunked idea that the last election was marred by massive voter fraud.

The only bright spot was the brief humor regarding Trump pardoning turkeys, and the Mike Luckovich cartoon. Way to keep to the theme of "the worst year ever!"
