It would seem that Trooper First Class Ryan Luther had a bad day, as many of us have had in our lives, “Connecticut state trooper charged in Ledyard domestic incident,” (July 16). After reading the police report in The Day, my wife (infinitely smarter than me) and I were mystified as to why the article closed by reporting the amount of salary and overtime Trooper Luther earned in 2020. Was it an attempt by a liberal news media to embarrass Trooper Luther and his family?

It would have been more appropriate to point out that Trooper Luther spent over 20 years serving and protecting the people of the state and that the money he earned was done so through hard work and diligence in the performance of his sworn duties.
