Part of good health is access to a restroom

Years ago, when you went to a drug store the pharmacist was your next-door neighbor and was an owner. If you needed a bathroom, would he or she ever say, "no public access?" Never!

Today, if you are a customer of a chain-owned pharmacy, more likely you are told "sorry." That was my experience at a Mystic pharmacy. Things have changed. Parents with children, the elderly (including me), women, men in need, are denied access. The pharmacy I visited has two bathrooms located in the storage area with a sign on the door "employee only." If you get in, a staff stands guard. A little demeaning. After contacting the company's home office, the Stonington Building Department, state Senators Somers and Osten; no progress. Connecticut by law requires access only if serious ailments and with a doctor certificate.

Can you believe a business with thousands of branches and billions of revenues is not sensitive to the urgent needs of their patrons? The rows of wellness hygiene displayed does not make a distinction as to any political party. If you agree, mention your concern to staff. They are sensitive to the problem. The cost is minimal to correct and a great opportunity to do the right thing.
