Pawcatuck needs a smaller scale development

As a resident of Stonington, I support all efforts to improve our village of Pawcatuck, indeed part of my family resides there, and I have come to know its benefits and potential. Building an 82-unit, five-story apartment complex on less than two acres of land is not the way. The proposed building is massive and skinning different sections with different veneers does not solve the problem. At least the old Campbell Grain building had the honesty of its industrial use. This proposal looks like a tarted up, out-of-scale warehouse, unfortunately out of touch with its surroundings.

While neighboring Westerly does its best to improve its downtown architectural inventory, why should we be willing to compromise? I say vote “Yes” on Tuesday and wait for a more sensitive smaller scale proposal for the site, something that is indeed an improvement to downtown Pawcatuck.
