Lowered standards for letters to The Day

Since Paul Choinière's retirement the quality of letters published by The Day has been in decline. Personal attacks, most recently against George Soros, have enlivened the editorial page with insults. Are fact checkers vetting the letters? Is anyone at The Day concerned about a standard of civility and respect in the letters that they publish? Please stop the descent before our local newspaper, long respected for its integrity and fairness, becomes a tabloid using the crowd-pleasing formulae of the late Jerry Springer Show.
