“... the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” Do we really think our Founding Fathers supported 18-year-olds with combat weapons holding 100s of rounds of ammunition? We are the only nation that permits regular carnage with firearms because we have perverted the Constitution. Mental illness is no greater here than anywhere else. But here, terrorists and angry young men with no proof of responsible gun handling can acquire tools of mass destruction because we cannot infringe on their liberty.

It is absurd. 80% of us agree on 80% of what needs to be done, yet Republicans block meaningful gun reform. Liberty is not an unconstrained right; it should be balanced with other rights, including public safety. Consider: 1.) No guns for terrorists; 2.) No guns for men under 25, no magazines >5 rounds for men 25-30 (young women do not massacre others); 3.) Ban all magazines >10 rounds; 4.) All guns should be registered/licensed (we license fishing but not guns!); 5.) Ban assault weapons except for the military and tightly regulated pleasure shooting.

Responsible gun owners will agree with some/most of these, and the right to bear arms would not be infringed.
