Find a safe place for dirt bikes

The New London police's confiscation and destruction of dirt bikes and ATVs because of illegal riding on city streets is a counter-productive punishment, not a solution. (“NL Police aim to crush illegal dirt bikes,” Oct. 1) It illustrates lack of respect and understanding, and fosters fear, defiance, and disregard for authority.

One solution is for municipalities or organizations to build off-street "trails" for riders, as they provide skateboard parks, soccer fields, pickleball courts, ball fields, tennis courts, young children's playgrounds, dinghy docks and other recreational opportunities.
