‘Democracy in Groton is in trouble’

Something is rotten in Groton; the behavior of some of our duly elected officials is rife with meanness, harassment, attempts of intimidation, insinuations, and accusations of wrongdoing, yelling, pounding of hands, not following the rules proposed and accepted, specious statements, name calling, and bickering.

Having the freedom to vote, disagree, debate in a respectful manner, and come to a consensus exemplifies democracy at its finest. Democracy in Groton is in trouble. The enormity of your lack of decorum has caused mistrust and division in our beloved hometown.

The citizens of Groton deserve better; we elected you because you had integrity, a commitment to the betterment of Groton, and made promises to us; we voted for you because we trusted you would follow through on your promises.

You recited the Oath of Office and solemnly swore to faithfully execute your duties to the best of your abilities. By causing the escalating rancor as opposed to being the thoughtful, respectful, and serious town councilors we expected is of great disappointment.

You were the 1st and 2nd vote-getters; we voted for you because you showed integrity, and we believed in you.
