    Disingenous arguments on guns

In his op-ed, “Assault weapons ban isn’t the answer,” W. Scott Lewis revisits the all the usual tired and threadbare arguments of those who favor unrestricted access to firearms. First, the semantic point that the term ‘assault weapon’ is technically inaccurate; second the questionable claim that they aren’t actually that much more lethal than other weapons, including knives and blunt instruments; and in conclusion, the argument that since a ban of ‘assault weapons’ will not eliminate all homicides, it serves no purpose and therefore we should not consider it.

These arguments are disingenuous at best, but then Mr. Scott is a founding board member of Students for Concealed Carry, an organization that supports the proliferation of firearms on campuses.
