Enjoyed reading article on asylum journey

The article on Mr. Amador's asylum odyssey was a wonderful heartwarming story that highlights many of the best attributes of our nation, and the people who worked to secure his asylum, “Finding refuge: Honduran man wins asylum to stay in New London,” (Jan. 14).

I am sure that Mr. Amador will prove to be a great asset to our country.

However, it should be noted that this individual success probably cost tens of thousands of dollars when you factor in both government and charitable expenses.

In the meantime, let us not forget that hundreds of thousands of kids in Central America are suffering every day from stunted physical and mental growth because of poor diet and minimal medical care. Many families simply do not have the $20 per week (or less) that would give their kids a decent, healthy diet.
