Old Lyme library makes the right call

WHEW! No removal of two books from the "Tween/Teen" section of the Old Lyme Library. Instead of heading down the rabbit hole which both Florida and Texas (among other states) are pushing toward their constituents, we here in Lyme/Old Lyme, should issue a heartfelt "Thank You" to both the Phoebe Griffin Noyes Library's Director, Katie Huffman and the Board of Trustees for preserving the right to read whatever books we choose. (“Old Lyme library refuses to remove two controversial books from its shelves,“ July 12)

I'm old enough to remember the banishing of books in Germany in the 1930s, and know what it can lead to. One should encourage children to read, read, read . . . anything and everything. Libraries are for learning. Prohibit nothing.
