    Norwich Public Utilities heroes

On Sunday evening July 29, after a three-day heatwave, many in this area experienced some strong thunderstorms accompanied with strong winds. Such was the case in my Norwich neighborhood and it resulted in a very large tree coming down on electric wires, causing several homes to loose electric power, along with the tree blocking the road.

I contacted the Norwich Public Utilities and they responded. The job required them to secure the area, cut numerous large tree branches from among the electric lines, and finally restore the power. In the total darkness, using only their own lighting, they restored our electric power within about four hours. I also learned that they had been on a similar job in another part of the city before coming to my area.

I thank them for their highly professional skills and for being there when we needed them most. They are out there on the coldest winter nights or the hottest summer days, seven days a week and holidays, too. We really don't give too much thought to the job that our electric utility workers do, whether they be Norwich Public Utility Line workers, Eversource or United Illuminating.
