    Lower voting age to 16

I am writing to express my support for lowering the voting age to 16.

Although I am no longer a young person myself, I believe that it is important to give young people a say in the decisions that will shape their future. Lowering the voting age would not only give 16 and 17-year-olds a greater sense of civic engagement, but would also encourage politicians to take their concerns seriously. With issues such as climate change and gun control at the forefront of the younger generation's concerns, it is vital that they have a voice in the political process. Additionally, many young people are more politically aware than ever before. They have access to a wealth of information through social media and online news sources, and they are often directly impacted by policies that affect their education, job prospects and well-being. Furthermore, many 16 and 17-year-olds are already given certain responsibilities and rights, such as driving and paying taxes, and this country was founded on “no taxation without representation.” By giving young people a voice in the democratic process, we can create a more engaged and empowered generation of citizens.
