Police words reveal ignorance
In The Day (April 16) police reports, “Man charged with throwing bricks, causing crash,” I found the language used by Ledyard police to describe what appears to be a potentially fatal assault to reflect ignorance and/or disdain for victims. Upon investigation of the head-on crash caused by the perpetrator, police are quoted as stating the "incident" stemmed from "a boyfriend/girlfriend dispute." Oh, just that little thing; nothing to see here.
Domestic violence can often be a matter of life and death. When sworn officers of the law use language suggesting ignorance and/or disdain it is my opinion that they need retraining and sooner rather than later.
